Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4th July 2026
The Alternative Desk (”we”, “us”) publishes content via Substack at thealternativedesk.com. This page explains what personal data we collect and what we do with it.
What we collect
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. If you leave a comment or interact via Substack Notes, Substack may also associate that activity with your account. We don’t ask for or collect any other personal information directly.
Why we collect it
We use your email address solely to send you the newsletter you signed up for, and any direct replies if you contact us. We do not use it for any other purpose.
Who else sees it
Our newsletter is hosted on Substack, which acts as our data processor. Substack handles the technical delivery of emails and has its own privacy policy governing how it stores and processes data on its platform: substack.com/privacy. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with any other third party.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, it is removed from our active mailing list (Substack’s standard retention practices apply to backend records).
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data, and to withdraw consent (unsubscribe) at any time. You can unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of any email, or by contacting us directly.
Cookies
Substack, as the platform hosting this site, may set cookies for functionality and analytics purposes. See Substack’s privacy policy for details: substack.com/privacy.
